Six Marketing Trends Women Dominate
Want to meet and greet and form relationships with women? Do you recognize the power women have today? Are you wondering where the women hang out?
Let's look at Six Marketing Trends Women Dominate -
1) Pets. Here's a great WSJ article on how baby boomer Moms are moving their attention from their empty nest to their pets. Women dote on their pets more so than men…and they are most open to your services or products if you can relate to them as Pet Moms.
2) Facebook. Women love Facebook. (not sure why…I'm there but…it's my LEAST favorite social media tool; but that's just me). Mashable has a list of 10 ways to engage with women on Facebook that is worth a look-see. I'm partial to #4: Give Fans a Voice (this was when we had fans). Women appreciate the opportunity to voice their opinion anywhere, not just on Facebook. But, Facebook can be a great place to start the conversation.
3) Affluence. Women are affluent. Stephanie Holland at She-conomy demonstrates the power and wealth women command, today, in her "Marketing to Women Quick Facts". Many of her stats reflect the boomer women, of which I am one, but make no mistake, our daughters and granddaughters have $$ – and know how to save, or invest, or spend, accordingly. This is not your Grandmother's Era of "let the husband" do it.
4) Connectedness. Think: social. Women always have and will always be the dominate players in the social scene. That includes online. We are social creatures by default. We talk to each other. We discuss more than the weather or the latest baseball scores. We discuss life, health, family, pets, shopping, travel, weather, kids, husbands, groceries, spending, shoes, and everything else under the sun. Learn how we're connected and how that impacts you.
5) Technology. Fast Company announced the "most influential women in technology" in February and it got 505 Diggs. Why? Because women are into technology. Doesn't mean we're dying to be CIOs or be the go-to person in the IT department. It means we have come to respect the value and usefulness of technology and we're not afraid of it, anymore. Our daughters and granddaughters are watching – and absorbing. THEY are the future of technology and THEY will be standing alongside their brothers, facilitating change. Do not make the mistake of believing women are technophobes. Don't talk down to us and don't misjudge us. We know – but,we may pretend we don't just to see how you treat us. Or, we may just sign and walk way when you give us that "don't you worry your pretty little head about it" speech. (we can hear it in your voice…trust me)
6) Relationships. Yep, there it is. That word. Marketers the world over are sprinkling it among their marketing messages. I have to wonder how many of them actually understand how powerful women are in the relationship building realm. Within that trend, is the all important concept of "storytelling." That's how women build solid relationships that last. We tell stories. We share stories. We use storytelling to discover similarities and differences and focus on the meaning of the story we're hearing, as opposed to the "outcome." For us, there is no outcome. Every friendship, every relationship is part of a neverending story. Want to begin a relationship with us? Tell us your story. Then, step back and listen…we have stories to tell, also.
